Chris Christie, former Trump debate coach, gives Harris important advice ahead of Tuesday’s duel

Former Republican Governor Chris Christie offered some words of wisdom to Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris ahead of her debate with Donald Trump on Tuesday.

Christie helped Trump prepare for the 2016 and 2020 debates before their relationship disintegrated into open hostility.

Over the weekend, the former New Jersey Gov. advised Harris to lean on “touchstones” of preparation and use Trump’s lack of preparation to her advantage. He also said she must “charm” the American people.

“She needs to show that she’s not as loud as he is 24/7, doing a leaf blower,” Christie told ABC News on Sunday.

“There’s a way to be kind, smart and tough at the same time – that’s the appeal. Disarming means… not getting involved in that kind of thing.”

He noted, “She has to look into the camera and charm the American people.”

Christie was also asked on the show how Trump prepares for a debate.

“He doesn’t,” Christie replied, noting that Trump’s refusal to participate in debate preparation was “a constant struggle” for his advisers.

Christie said: “He’s just going to take a chance. You’ve seen this show before. It’s the one that’s going to get the most attention.”

Trump and Harris are neck and neck in the polls ahead of their first presidential debate on ABC News on Tuesday, with a New York Times/According to a Siena College poll, the former president is one percentage point ahead of the vice president, 48 percent to 47 percent.

The 90-minute presidential debate between Harris and Trump will take place on Tuesday in Philadelphia, hosted by ABC News without the presence of a live audience.
