A Minecraft movie trailer is released as an animated remake

If there was ever a video game adaptation that just cried out for an animated version, it’s Minecraft. The typical square look of Minecraft’s world and characters is difficult to pull off in live-action, but the upcoming film A Minecraft Movie manages to do just that. However, a trio of Minecraft fans have decided to improve on the recently released trailer by remaking it with animation.

The above video was created by users who call themselves Alumio, Maraylin, and Comic Cyrus. As Alumio explained on his YouTube page, they didn’t like the movie’s trailer, so they decided to improve it. For the most part, they did a great job, and the trailer looks like it was shot in Minecraft itself. The only area where the recreation falls short is in conveying the emotions of the human characters. And that’s kind of the key to getting viewers to engage with them.

What we know about the film so far is that four ordinary people – played by a very untypical “Aquaman”-like Jason Momoa, his co-star Emma Myers from “Wednesday,” Danielle Brooks from “Peacemaker,” and Sebastian Hansen – have been transported to the world of Minecraft, where anything is possible. Jack Black plays their guide Steve, who has mastered the art of crafting. And somehow he will help them get home.

Jared Hess directs the film from a screenplay by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer. A Minecraft Movie will be released in theaters on April 4, 2025.
