Demi Moore shares wise advice from a ‘stranger’ that changed her perspective on aging

Demi Moore is not perfect – and that’s okay with her.

The feud Actress, 61, opened up diversity in a new interview published on September 3, about a casual remark made by a stranger years ago that actually helped her accept her imperfections and her aging body.

“I’m not perfect,” she tells the outlet. “Sometimes I look at a photo and think, ‘I look old’ or something. But I’ve learned to deal with it.”

The question of how she learned to cope was based on a comment made to her by someone she didn’t even know.

“It’s about capturing the feeling in the moment and then pivoting,” she says. “A stranger once said something to me a long time ago that has stuck with me ever since. She said, ‘You will never be enough.'”

And while that may sound harsh, Moore took it quite differently – in a way that helped her accept herself and be truly confident.

“She said, ‘You’ll never be enough, but you’ll know your worth once you put down the standards.'”

Moore also stressed that she does not let her age stop her from applying for the roles she wants or pursuing the career she is interested in – because age is nothing more than a construct, she said.

“One of the biggest themes of my career is challenging preconceived notions and limitations,” she told the outlet. “I’m at a point where I’m writing my own story rather than having it dictated to me based on my age. Who says someone can’t look a certain way or do certain things? The ’60s aren’t what the ’60s used to be. Part of me enjoys figuring it out as I go along.”

Moore’s discussion of aging is advertising for her upcoming film The substance In the film, she plays a celebrity looking for a way to prolong her youth. Known for her aerobics show, she turns 50 and loses pretty much everything – because she’s “old.” It was an idea Moore had to grapple with, and she told the outlet that a lot of it hinged on the “male perspective of the idealized woman.”

“It’s not about what is done to us; it’s about what we do to ourselves.”

The substance will be released on September 18th.
