Danger of severe weather until the end of the week

Today we can expect plenty of sunshine, with highs averaging around 30 degrees and light winds blowing from the southeast. Skies will remain clear overnight, with our lows dropping to 10-15 degrees by daybreak on Tuesday. Tuesday will be a little hotter, with more sunshine and highs around 32 degrees. Clouds will form from Wednesday and humidity will increase. Highs will reach 30-35 degrees, with fresh winds blowing from the southeast, gusting over 20 mph.

We are monitoring the Gulf of Mexico for the possible development of what will become Tropical Storm Francine. The track of this tropical system will move northeastward late in the week, bringing drenching, beneficial rain to the Tennessee Valley on Thursday and Friday. Model forecasts show rainfall between 1 and 3 inches by Saturday morning. In addition to the threat of heavy rain, we will continue to monitor the likelihood of a strong to severe storm for the end of the work week. Due to the potential impacts of this system, 48 FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYS will be in effect Thursday and Friday.

This system provides a developing forecast that can change often, so keep checking back for the latest information on the radio, online and on your WAFF 48 First Alert Weather App.
