Robert Saleh was ridiculously honest about the Jets getting Haason Reddick back

The New York Jets are less than a week away from their season opener Monday Night Football Game against the San Francisco 49ers. They are still missing a key player. All-Pro edge rusher Haason Reddick, who was acquired via trade in the offseason, is still trying to get a new contract.

Reddick has not reported for any offseason activity for New York and even once asked to be traded, which the franchise bluntly (and publicly) denied. At this point, it’s hard to imagine either side giving in first, and there’s a very slim chance Reddick will be available to play defense anytime soon.

When head coach Robert Saleh was asked about the Reddick situation, he was ridiculously honest about how it would feel to have Reddick back at this point.

“It’s like finding change on the couch, right?” he told reporters Tuesday. “But no, he’s a special football player. And when he gets here, when he gets here at some point, he’s only going to help us.”

Since the Jets likely started preparing weeks ago as if they didn’t have Reddick, you can understand why they view his talents as found money. That’s a very unfortunate attitude towards an offseason addition that cost a conditional third-round pick, especially for a team desperate for a win right now. Jets fans are probably used to that by now.

With or without Reddick, the Jets will take the field on Monday, September 9, for the 2024 regular season.
