Harvey Weinstein undergoes heart surgery just days after his ex struts through Venice with her beau

Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was taken from his prison cell to Bellevue Hospital on Sunday, his lawyers confirmed.

Weinstein, 72, underwent emergency surgery at Manhattan Hospital, his lawyer Arthur Aidala told the Daily Beast in an email. His surgery took place on Monday and was for “heart issues,” Aidala confirmed.

Weinstein, who is being held at Rikers Island pending his rape retrial, reportedly began complaining of feeling unwell over the weekend, his lawyers said. The New York Times.

Both Aidala and Weinstein’s prison counselor Craig Rothfeld informed officials at Rikers about their client’s deteriorating health in the days leading up to the surgery. Just reported.

Sources close to Weinstein later told Deadline the former co-founder of Miramax is in “critical condition” and in “very poor health”.

Weinstein, an Oscar-winning producer responsible for some of the most memorable blockbusters of the 1990s, was one of the most powerful Hollywood executives brought down during the #MeToo movement. Since the first reports in JustMore than 80 women accused the former industry leader of sexual assault.

Weinstein was originally charged with the rape in 2018. He was found guilty in February 2020, but his conviction was overturned by the New York Court of Appeals in April in a 4-3 decision. The court ordered a retrial and he has been held at Rikers Island since then.

Weinstein previously served a 23-year prison sentence at the Mohawk Correctional Facility in upstate New York.

Weinstein was also convicted of rape and other sex crimes in a separate criminal case in California in 2022. He was sentenced to an additional 16 years in prison for the California charges. During both trials, Weinstein appeared in court in a wheelchair.

Earlier this year, he was briefly placed in a hospital’s prison ward after complaining of chest pains. During his brief stay in the hospital ward, he was given a private bathroom, phone and television – which he used to watch CNN and other programs throughout the day, The City reported. Weinstein’s representatives told the Daily Beast at the time that his treatment was standard and far from “comfortable.”

Weinstein’s health problems come just days after his ex-wife, British actress and designer Georgina Chapman, was spotted with her new boyfriend Adrien Brody at the Venice Film Festival. Chapman attended a screening of Brody’s new film, “The Brutalist,” last week, which received a 13-minute standing ovation at the Italian festival, Hollywood trade publications report.

Chapman reportedly left Weinstein in 2017, shortly after reports of his years-long sexual misconduct were published. Chapman and Brody began dating in 2019, according to The Daily Mail.
