Scott Hanson apologizes to Tom Brady for ‘reckless’ broadcast commentary

Tom Brady’s first NFL game as a sportscaster was a bit of a rocky experience. Which is probably to be expected, even with how effortless the future Hall of Famer made the football look. Again, Brady is a rookie, and rookies take their beatings. He had some good moments on the Fox Sports broadcast of the Dallas Cowboys’ victory over the Cleveland Browns, but there was a lot of criticism about his broadcast debut.

And some of it came unexpectedly from Scott Hanson. NFL RedZone The announcer made headlines on Sunday when he said Brady “needs to have more fun in the locker room” as the Cowboys lined up for a 65-yard field goal attempt.

On Monday, Hanson apologized for the statement, writing on X (formerly Twitter) that it was “unfair and reckless,” even if it was meant tongue-in-cheek. He also stressed that he was rooting for Brady to succeed in his second career.

“That was unfair and inconsiderate of me,” Hanson said. “Yes, I didn’t mean it entirely seriously – but I didn’t consider how it might come across. @TomBrady, I apologize. I promise I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you in this new endeavor!”

Brady’s next appearance in the locker room will be on September 15th. He will again commentate on the Cowboys as they host the New Orleans Saints for their first home game at AT&T Stadium.
