Bills quarterback injures hand during hurdle touchdown

Josh Allen made a superhuman play with his touchdown run over the hurdle. But he is not completely immortal.

Allen suffered a hand injury when he leapt over a defender and plunged into the end zone to extend the Buffalo Bills’ lead over the Arizona Cardinals in their 34-28 victory on Sunday.

The CBS broadcast showed Allen being treated by athletic trainers on the sideline after the 6-yard touchdown, with tape applied to his hand and wrist. Allen was injured not by a Cardinals defender but by his own rocket arm, as his right elbow landed on his left hand as he fell to the ground.

Backup quarterback Mitchell Trubisky warmed up on the sidelines but never entered the game. Sideline reporter Tiffany Blackmon confirmed that Allen injured his left non-throwing hand.

Allen didn’t miss a beat and didn’t shy away from contact. On his first snap after the injury, he fought his way 9 yards.

“I’m fine,” Allen told reporters after the game when asked about a diagnosis. “I’m not a doctor, I just came across it.”

Allen, who scored four touchdowns on two passes and two catches, said he will likely undergo X-rays and other tests.

“Always worried (about injuries). I’ll know more in the next few hours,” said Bills head coach Sean McDermott.

The Bills have a short week and travel to the Miami Dolphins for Thursday Night Football.
