Live updates on the men’s final of the US Open: Taylor Fritz competes against Jannik Sinner for the title in the last Grand Slam of the year

Taylor Fritz wants to add his name to the very short list of Americans to have won a Grand Slam title in the 21st century. Andre Agassi (2001, 2003 Australian Open), Pete Sampras (2002 US Open) and Andy Roddick (2003 US Open) are the only American men to have won singles majors since the turn of the century, and standing in Fritz’s way in the final of the 2024 US Open is world No. 1 player Jannik Sinner.

While Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic will grab more headlines, Sinner has more than held his own this season. He has five wins this season, including the Australian Open and the Cincinnati Open before the US Open. Sinner beat Jack Draper in straight sets in the semifinals to advance, and Fritz defeated fellow American Frances Tiafoe en route to the final. With this win, Sinner would become the first Italian to win two Grand Slams in one year.
