Taylor Swift is back at Electric Lady Studios. There are a few things we know for sure: First, it’s not to record new music, but to attend the wedding of model Karen Elson and studio owner Lee Foster. Second, Swift’s cut-out dress looks like she’s ready for a cameo on one of the New York Fashion Week runways in spring 2025.

Holding hands with boyfriend Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift stopped by her favorite Manhattan recording venue on Saturday, September 7, in a dreamy cut-out dress by Australian label Zimmermann. While she and stylist Joseph Cassell Falconer opted for fall for their September 6 date, with classic knee-high boots and oversized blazers, her wedding guest dress seemed appropriate for a spring garden party. The piece, which is available at Saks Fifth Avenue and Net-a-Porter for $795, features a scalloped neckline and painterly florals in asymmetrical tufts along the skirt.

Swift’s accessories also gave way Bridgerton Energy for the promenade evening. She carried a drawstring bag by Vivienne Westwood, one of the designers who appears most frequently in her 2024 wardrobe, which matched the baby blue flowers on her dress. Dainty diamond earrings, white Christian Louboutin sandals and the return of her signature red lipstick completed the look.

Travis Kelce joined Swift on his first visit to Electric Lady Studios (as far as the public knows) looking like a celebrity wedding date, wearing a black button-down top and pants by Vivienne Westwood and matching loafers. The couple that dresses together, stays together.

These outfits were a stark contrast from their date outfits from the night before, and also from the stunning Versace denim corset Swift wore to the Chiefs game on Sept. 5. And of course they were: The couple was attending a wedding, after all. Swift’s cutout dress and Kelce’s shirt look like they were ready for a sailing trip around Newport Harbor. The night before, they wore matching moody black outfits, which they complemented with a few grays for good measure.

Even if they didn’t follow the bride and groom’s dress code, the change wouldn’t be too surprising. Swift’s wardrobe includes a variety of things, even within the parameters of her self-defined album “era” and the fashion that corresponds to it. Take her Department for Tortured Poets Fashion, for example: While the album’s imagery is associated with corsets, ruffles and poet sleeves by Westwood, Elena Velez and Celine (among others) — and she’s worn both plaid suit skirts and drop-waisted dresses that reflect the album — Swift has nonetheless worn a number of romantic outfits in her downtime. Last summer, she hit the recording studio in a Ralph Lauren eyelet lace look and spent her last independent Fourth of July before meeting Kelce in a celebrity-loved Dôen sundress.

As for their designer of choice, Zimmermann is a common staple in celebrities’ wardrobes, no matter the season or their current creative project. Jennifer Lopez wore a matching Zimmermann set with her 55th birthday lunch outfit; Beyoncé, Kendall Jenner and Katy Perry have also worn the label’s floral linen dresses on multiple occasions.

Zimmermann even played a special role in another of Swift’s album cycles. The music video for more and more In “Willow,” Swift appears in a white dress by Zimmermann. The piece is now on display at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Swift’s cut-out Zimmermann dress probably doesn’t signal a new chapter in fashion, but it’s a perfect fashion send-off to summer 2024. Maybe it’s a sign that we shouldn’t start rearranging our closets for fall just yet.
