Angel Reese will miss the rest of the WNBA season due to a wrist injury

CNN

Angel Reese, a rookie for the Chicago Sky and the WNBA’s all-time leader in total rebounds per game and offensive rebounds per game, will miss the remainder of the season due to a wrist injury.

The Sky announced this on Saturday evening. It is a heavy blow for Chicago, which is currently in the eighth and final playoff spot, while the Atlanta Dream, Washington Mystics and Dallas Wings are still in the race.

Sky still has six games of the regular season left.

“What a year. I never thought the last basket of my rookie season would be a three-pointer but maybe that was God’s will to give them a taste of what they’ll see even more in year two lol,” Reese said in posts on X and Instagram, referring to the three-pointer she made in the fourth quarter of her team’s 92-78 win over the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday.

“I showed that I belong in this league, even when no one else believed I did. All I ever wanted was to get to the W and make an impact. I can say with certainty that I have done that and will strive to continue to do so. I am very emotional right now because I have a season-ending injury, but I am also very grateful for what is next.”

Reese had 24 points and 12 rebounds in Friday’s win over the Sparks. This season, she is averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game.

“Although this is God’s schedule and not mine, I can finally take a physical and mental break. God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers,” Reese said.

Reese, who was selected seventh in this year’s WNBA Draft, has already made history in her rookie season.

On September 1, the former Louisiana State University star broke the WNBA single-season record for most rebounds, overtaking Sylvia Fowles, who retired as the league’s top rebounder after the 2022 season.

Reese also broke the single-season record for most offensive rebounds. She is the fastest player to reach 20 double-doubles in WNBA history and has the most consecutive double-doubles (15) in league history.

Reese recorded 26 double-doubles this season, making him one of only two players in league history to do so in a single year.
