Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese announced on X on Saturday night that her season was over due to injury after her participation in her team’s upcoming game against the Dallas Wings was questionable.

“I’m very emotional right now because I’m dealing with a season-ending injury, but I’m also very thankful for what’s next. Even though it’s God’s schedule and not mine, I can finally give myself a physical and mental break. ‘God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers,'” Reese wrote.

Reese finishes her rookie year with an unprecedented number of rebounds. Already in her first year, without fully finishing the season, Reese broke the record for most rebounds in a single WNBA season and the record for most rebounds per game with 13.1.

Reese broke the single-season scoring record in the Sky’s 79-74 loss at Minnesota on Sept. 1, when she surpassed Sylvia Fowles’ record of 404 points set in 2018. Fowles shattered the record by one point, just a year after Jonquel Jones recorded 403 points. Reese accomplished the feat in just 23 games.

Reese was considered the biggest challenger to fellow rookie Caitlin Clark for WNBA Rookie of the Year. Former NBA All-Star Joakim Noah even told Fox News Digital that he would vote for Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese. about Clark Rookie of the Year if he had a vote.

“When I watch her play, she reminds me a lot of myself,” Noah said.

Clark has the better averages in points, assists, steals, blocks and all major scoring categories. Clark broke the Fever’s single-season record for assists in a loss to Minnesota on Friday.

However, Reese had a clear advantage in rebounding. With 13.1 rebounds per game, he more than doubled Clark’s current figure of 5.8 per game.

In their head-to-head meetings this year, the Fever have beaten the Sky three out of four times. In two of those meetings, Reese has scored more points than Clark and in all four meetings, he has grabbed more rebounds than Clark. Clark has had more assists in all four meetings.

Before her season-ending injury, Reese spoke about her rivalry with Clark on the first episode of her podcast on Thursday. Reese expressed tremendous respect for Clark and said that despite a heated rivalry dating back to their college careers when Clark was at Iowa and Reese was at LSU, they hold no grudges against each other.

However, Reese spoke out against Clark’s passionate fans, claiming that they had harassed her.

“I think it’s really just the fans, their fans, the Iowa fans, now the Indiana fans, that are really just, they’re rooting for them, and I respect that, respectfully. But sometimes it’s very disrespectful. I think there’s a lot of racism when it comes to that,” Reese said.

Reese further cited death threats and people coming directly to her house as alleged examples of actions Clark’s fans took in response to their rivalry.

“People have come to my address and followed me home, that’s how far it has come,” Reese said.

Reese even claims that some fans used artificial intelligence to create pictures of her without clothes and sent them to her family members.

“Multiple times, people have taken AI pictures of me naked. They’ve sent them to my family members. My family members are like uncles sending them to me and saying, ‘Are you naked on Instagram?'” Reese said. “It sucks to have to go through that and see other players have to go through that.”

After Clark was selected first in last year’s WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever, Reese was selected seventh by Chicago. Reese and Clark were the only rookies selected for the WNBA All-Star Game in July.
