Shilo Sanders says he shouldn’t have played against NDSU

Shilo Sanders was tied for the team leader in solo tackles (six) in Colorado’s season-opening win over North Dakota State on Thursday night.

Just 24 hours before kickoff, the Buffaloes safety felt he would have to miss the debut of his final college football season.

“Before the game, last night, I had a cold or flu or something and I was feeling so bad,” Sanders said after the game in a video on his YouTube channel. “I was out there doing my job. Praise God. I shouldn’t have been playing. I was feeling so bad. I had the flu or something.”

Sanders still recorded nine total tackles (one of them for a loss) against NDSU, even though he didn’t feel quite at 100 percent.

“He pushes through everything,” Jordan Seaton, a true freshman offensive tackle, said in the video. “Some people think that’s a lie, but he pushes through everything. I appreciate that, buddy.”

Seaton made his Colorado debut on Thursday night and was impressive. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound OT allowed just two pressures (zero sacks) on 41 pass-blocking snaps, according to Pro Football Focus, becoming the first true freshman in program history to start at tackle.

Sanders, Seaton and the Colorado football team (1-0) will be back in action on Saturday, September 7, at Nebraska, kicking off at 5:30 p.m. MT on NBC.
