Injury report: Who’s in, who’s out for No. 14 Tennessee vs. No. 24 NC State

No. 14 Tennessee is scheduled to play a Top 25 matchup against No. 25 NCState tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Before the contest, Volquest takes a look at Tennessee’s injury situation.

Thomas suffered a season-ending knee injury during training camp, Josh Heupel confirmed after Tennessee’s first fall practice game.

β€œHe handled it with great maturity,” Tennessee coach Josh Heupel he said after the first practice game of fall camp. “Just being in the building, being here, being out here with the guys tonight. That’s important to him. The guys care about him a lot, too.”

Tennessee DB Christian Charles (probably)

Charles has been battling an upper-body injury since last week’s game. He is expected to suit up for Tennessee tonight in Charlotte, but we will be closely monitoring his play early in this game to see how well he feels.

EN Emmanuel Okoye (AUS)

Okoye suffered a season-ending knee injury before UTC and will miss the remainder of the season.

Seldon suffered a shoulder injury that forced him to miss the spring after surgery. Seldon has been getting back into the swing of things in recent weeks. Seldon played a lot of time against Chattanooga, but will miss tonight’s game against NC State, according to a Tennessee spokesperson.

The talented freshman missed the spring due to an injury he sustained in his senior year of high school that required surgery. He has improved this fall and made his first appearance last week. He will be available again today.

Tennessee WR Mike Matthews, Braylon Staley (probably)

Matthews was limited in fall training camp, but sources told Volquest at the time it was a minor soft tissue injury and he’s been playing a bit lately. Staley is dealing with a similar issue. Tennessee didn’t let the talented first-year duo play last week, but Kelsey Pope said earlier in the week he likes the way the two are developing. They should be able to suit up for the Vols tonight, but we’ll see if they get opportunities with this strong rotation of receivers.

We expect Rickey Gibson to start this week after sitting out last week as a precaution. Josh Heupel and Willie Martinez both spoke positively about Gibson’s hamstring injury and it looks like Tennessee should be at full strength at the cornerback position for this matchup.

Kitselman is banged up after fall training camp but should see playing time with the Vols today. He has been a bright spot in the tight end room of Alec Abeln’s group since his arrival in the winter and is expected to be in the Vols’ rotation this fall.

Update: It is also noteworthy that Kalib Perry and Edwin Spillman are both running in casual clothes during warm-ups.
