Former Michigan quarterback punished for celebrating with finger guns in second-overtime win

Former Michigan quarterback Alan Bowman received a personal foul penalty in the fourth quarter of his team Oklahoma State’s eventual double-overtime victory over Arkansas for a cowboy-like gesture that the referees deemed unsportsmanlike conduct.

With 1:48 left in the fourth quarter and the score tied 28-28, Bowman completed a 36-yard pass to the Arkansas 6-yard line. After the play, Bowman ran down the Arkansas sideline and celebrated with extended finger guns, prompting the referees to raise a flag.

The play forced the Cowboys back 13 yards and they had to settle for a field goal, forcing Arkansas into overtime, but Oklahoma State held on in the second overtime.

Last season, Bowman helped Oklahoma State reach the Big 12 championship game, where it lost to Texas. Bowman finished the year completing 61 percent of his passes for 3,460 yards, 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Bowman became eligible for the seventh time in January. As a Wolverine, he was a member of back-to-back Big Ten championship and playoff teams, behind Cade McNamara and JJ McCarthy.
