A YouTube star played the long game, pranking the internet for two years while secretly losing a ton of weight.
Nicholas Perry, better known as Nikocado Avocado, has more than 3.9 million followers on YouTube, where he is best known for his food content in the special genre of “mukbang,” in which he and others consume excessive amounts of food.
Perry has been making videos on YouTube for more than seven years and had a much slimmer figure when he started, at least compared to his second-to-last video, which he shared just three months ago, in which he said he had “abandoned his weight loss journey.”
However, Perry fooled everyone and showed off a new look in a video shared on September 7, after apparently losing 250 pounds (113 kg) in just a few months.
The shocking video, titled “Two Steps Ahead,” which has been viewed more than 3 million times at the time of this writing, begins with Perry wearing a panda head and in character telling viewers, “I’m always two steps ahead.”
He adds: “This has been the greatest social experiment of my life. It is disturbing, compelling and gripping to watch all these sick, disoriented beings roaming the internet in search of stories, ideas and rivalries in which they feel empowered and engaged.”
Perry went on to say that he had now woken up from a “very long dream” in which he had “lost 250 pounds of body weight.”
However, in another video titled “Hi,” which runs on a separate YouTube channel, Perry, along with his parrot, shows a much friendlier demeanor and briefly explains how he managed to pull off his stunt.
Before eating a large plate of spicy cheesy pasta, Perry explains that he hasn’t made a video in two years and has simply been sharing old pre-made content to keep his channel going while working on his health.
Perry’s big reveal has since gone viral, with many viewers baffled by the twist in the story. One fan wrote, “This almost doesn’t feel real, he managed to play us like a violin, this redemption arc feels surreal.”
Another wrote: “Nikocado Avocado, you have my utmost respect. You managed to troll the internet for two years.”
A third said: “I have never smiled so much when I saw Nikocado Avocado and I really couldn’t be happier and prouder of him, no irony.”
Perry has said he will now only post on his second channel and hinted that he will share more about his story next week.
