The cast of the Beetlejuice sequel explains why the film left them “surprised and shocked”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice promises to reflect the fantasy and comedy that made the original 1988 film so popular. However, actors Monica Bellucci and Willem Dafoe were “surprised and shocked” at the amount of emotion in the film when they saw it for the first time.

Bellucci and Dafoe play supporting roles in the film as Delores and Wolf Jackson.they were not on set for the emotional moments between Lydia Deetz and her daughter Astrid. Speaking to GamesRadar+, the two explained how surprised they were by these scenes. “There were large sections in which I was of course not involved because I am part of the ensemble,” Dafoe said “I think only occasionally there are outbursts of emotion that one does not expect.”

“I mean, it’s clear that there’s a lot of comedy and a lot of great gags and weird twists. But every now and then, in the family story, there’s a kind of emotional outburst,” Dafoe continued. Bellucci shared this opinion, saying: “Even though I knew the script, I was so surprised and shocked when I saw the film because it contains so many elements. The film is scary but also funny and full of emotion and has a dark humor and gothic elements. So I think this is the kind of film for all generations.”

The sequel offers a lot of improvisation

Director Tim Burton had previously revealed that the film contains a lot of improvisation, which probably contributes to its emotional realism. It was a bit like the first film. I tried to treat this film in the spirit of the first film, for which we had a script, but there was a lot of improvisation,” the filmmaker explained. “We just tried to do it in that spirit. We shot quickly and all the actors did their part. (The cast) really took it from the page and made it into something different. That was the whole mood of the film.”

According to the official summary Beetlejuice Beetlejuice begins “after an unexpected family tragedy brings three generations of the Deetz family to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious daughter Astrid discovers the mysterious model of the city in the attic and the portal to the afterlife is accidentally opened.. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time before someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times.”

The first reviews of the sequel to the film were mostly positive. Based on 71 reviews, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice currently has a critics rating of 82% on Rotten Tomatoes. The number is one percentage point higher than the current value of the original film. Since the film has not yet been released in cinemas, there is currently no audience rating.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be released internationally on September 4th, before its US premiere on September 6th.
