Uruguay is too strong for the weak Paraguay

After Friday’s winning goal in Buenos Aires, the focus of Saturday’s football bet of the day is once again on the South American World Cup qualifiers and I have come up with a way to get the Uruguayans on my side.

🌎 CONMEBOL World Cup qualification

⏰ Saturday, September 7, 00:30

Uruguay will be looking to continue their impressive start to their World Cup qualifying campaign when they host Paraguay at the Estadio Centenario in the early hours of Saturday morning, and I’m happy to back the hosts to take all three points in this match.

Uruguay started the World Cup qualifying campaign winning just one of their first three matches (1 win, 1 draw, 1 loss), but Marcelo Bielsa’s side won their next three matches – including home wins against Brazil and away wins in Argentina – to climb to second place, just two points behind leaders Argentina.

La Celeste have won their first three qualifying matches on home soil, scoring seven goals and conceding just one.

Although Paraguay has remarkably only scored one goal in qualifying so far, the team has taken five points from their first six qualifying matches (1 win, 2 draws, 3 losses). All five points have come against the three teams below them in the table, with their only win being a 1-0 home victory over Bolivia, who are known for their poor travel chances.

Gustavo Alfaro’s new team has already lost at home against Colombia (3rd) and away against Argentina (1st) and Venezuela (4th), leaving them in seventh place, two points behind sixth-placed Brazil.

Bet of the day

As previously mentioned, Uruguay have won their first three CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers on home soil, scoring seven goals and conceding just one. And with Paraguay winless in their last 11 away World Cup qualifiers (W0, D4, L7), losing seven of their last eight games and, remarkably, failing to score a single goal in their last 10, I’m happy to back the Uruguayans with the Asian Handicap of -1.

This means that if Uruguay wins by a single goal difference, we get our stake back, while if they win by two or more goals difference, we pay out the full amount.

  • Uruguay -1 Asian Handicap
  • Pays 47/50 (William Hill)
