Megan Thee Stallion and RM of BTS aren’t kidding around with their new single “Neva Play,” which was released on Friday (September 6).
The duet was released just a week after the pair hinted on social media that they were joining forces. The Houston hottie and the K-pop phenomenon take turns showing off their rapping skills. “This is one of my favorite RM verses I’ve ever heard!” Meg wrote of the collaboration five days before the release, sharing the track’s cartoon-like artwork.
“I’ve never heard him rap in this style 😎,” she added at the time. “NEVA PLAYS FRIDAY WITH RM, HOTTIES X ARMY 🔥💸 #MEGJOON”
The new track marks Meg’s second time entering the world of BTS, having previously worked with the band on a remix of Billboard Hot 100-topping song “Butter.” She teased “Neva Play” with a simple tweet – “🐎X💜 👀” – and BTS practically confirmed her involvement with the project on August 30 by retweeting it with a series of emojis of her own.
A day later, Meg confirmed that only RM would accompany her on the track.
“Neva Play” comes at a busy time for Thee Stallion, whose album Megan debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 in July. A day before the track’s release, Pepsi unveiled a massive campaign starring the Grammy winner in a gladiator-themed commercial next to Travis Kelce. The day before, her Billboard The cover story went online and included her comments on the rap world, her feud with Nicki Minaj, and the importance of voting in the upcoming election.
Meanwhile, BTS’s band activities are on hiatus as the members have to do their military service in South Korea, although some of the guys have given up their solo projects in the meantime. This includes RM, whose album Right place, wrong person was released in May and reached number 5 on the Billboard 200.
