Chiefs superfan convicted of bank robbery after pleading guilty

Kansas City Chiefs superfan Xaviar Babudar, known in the NFL community as “ChiefsAholic,” was sentenced to 17.5 years in prison after pleading guilty to bank robbery.

Babudar admitted to stealing more than $800,000 in 11 bank robberies in seven different states, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He also laundered the money at several casinos in the areas where he committed the robberies.

According to FOX 4 KC, his attorney declined to speak to reporters about the verdict.

Babudar, who was easily recognizable at Chiefs games in his “KC Wolf” costume and Kansas City gear, pleaded guilty to bank robbery, money laundering and transporting stolen property across state lines.

He was initially charged with 20 counts, but following an agreement, the charges were increased to three.

Chiefs fans liked Babudar’s social media presence and also the costume he contributed to the games. ‘ChiefsAholic’ became a popular account on social platforms as he often took shots at the opposing teams.

However, fans noticed that he did not tweet during the Chiefs’ game against the Houston Texans in December 2022. They quickly made the connection to his first arrest on December 16, 2022, when he was caught after an armed robbery at the Tulsa Teachers Credit Union in Bixby, Oklahoma.

Babudar’s life on social media did not reflect reality, as he was listed as homeless in court documents following his arrest.

Babudar was later released on bail. After winning $100,000 from betting on the Chiefs, he cut off his ankle bracelet and fled. He was sought by authorities for nearly four months, but he was finally found in California on July 7, 2023.

His love for the Chiefs remains undiminished: ESPN reported earlier this year that he listens to Chiefs games on a transistor radio at Leavenworth Prison in Kansas, where he has been incarcerated for seven months.
