9 Movies Like Knives Out to Watch While You Wait for the Third Movie

In 2019 Knives out has shaken up the crime genre: Instead of relying on a dark, atmospheric mystery experience, the film relied on quirky characters and a good dose of humor.

Over and beyond Knives out also changed the formula by revealing who the killer was almost immediately…or at least that’s what the audience thought.

The film’s unique premise is complemented by its stellar cast, which includes acting legends such as Jamie Lee Curtis, Christopher Plummer, Toni Collette, Chris Evans and Daniel Craig. Knives out was a huge success, grossing over $312 million at the box office and even earning him an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

In 2022, the film received a sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Crime Thriller – And KnivesOut 3 is currently in development, with Craig reprising his role as Detective Benoit Blanc. According to DeadlineShooting on the film will begin later this year.

One of the most famous crime stories of all time is the board game Clue, and in 1985 the popular game was made into a film.

In the film, a group of strangers aliasing Mrs. White and Colonel Mustard arrive at a remote mansion, and in classic Clue fashion, someone is found dead.

It is no secret that Agatha Christie had a great influence on Knives out: In 2019, director Rian Johnson even told Rich that the film adaptations of Hercule Poirot’s stories were his “tonal touchstones,” so it’s no surprise that fans love films like Murder on the Orient Express.

In the classic story, a murder occurs at the beginning of a long-distance train journey and it is up to detective Poirot to solve the case. Similar to Knives outThe 2017 adaptation had a great ensemble cast, including Judi Dench, Willem Dafoe, Penelope Cruz and Daisy Ridley.

Two sequels were published, which include Christie’s other famous stories, Death on the Nile in 2022 and A ghost in Venice in 2023.

If you love Knives outTo see the epic ending with a surprising twist, watch 2003 identity. The tone of the film is quite different, as it is more of a psychological horror film than a cheesy mystery film, but the two films still have a lot in common.

The film revolves around a production of Christie’s famous play The Mousetrapand during a performance, a mysterious murder occurs backstage. A detective and a young policeman are sent to solve the crime, resulting in a witty and humorous crime thriller that fans of Knives out will love.

In addition, the film’s self-confidence and blatant homage to Christie will be the icing on the cake for Knives out fans. The cast includes Saoirse Ronan, Sam Rockwell and Adrien Brody.

Fargo

Fargo is a black comedy from 1996, which Knives out Fans will love it. The story revolves around a fake kidnapping plot orchestrated by a Midwestern car dealer in need of money. But soon the plan spirals horribly out of control, leaving a trail of bodies in its wake.

For Knives out Fans who loved watching Ana de Armas’ character desperately try to cover her tracks, Fargo will be incredibly entertaining. It’s also a really clever film that stages a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase between police chief Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand) and the criminals played by actors like William H. Macy and Steve Buscemi.

Fargo was nominated for seven Oscars and won two.
