7 new movies and TV shows to watch this weekend (August 30) on Netflix, Prime Video, Max and more
Like every week before, there are plenty of new films and series to watch on the world’s biggest streamers – but one hit series is likely to outdo all the others this weekend.
That’s correct, The Rings of Powerthe most successful Amazon TV original of all time, is back with its highly anticipated second season. From what our reviewer said, it sounds like the high fantasy series’ second season is worth checking out as well, but you’ll have to read on to find out why that is.
Dissatisfied with Prime Video’s attitude to The Lord of the Rings? Before Sunday night, six more exciting TV series and films will make their debut (or have already done so) on the world’s best streaming services. So, let’s get started, dear reader!
The Rings of Power, Season 2 (Prime Video)
Watch on
I have said it before and I will say it again: I liked The Rings of Power Season 1. It wasn’t perfect, but Amazon’s Lord of the rings The prequel show was a fantastic feast for the eyes with melodrama, horror moments, thrilling action and plenty of captivating fantasy.
Since The Rings of Power Season 2 was first announced, then I was excited for the return of one of the best Prime Video shows. Thankfully, the almost two-year wait was worth it, with The Rings of PowerThe second season is the exciting and faithful TV adaptation that I have always wanted (and I suspect many Tolkien fans have too).
I have covered the series extensively recently, so check out our Rings of Power Tag page for exclusive insights from the showrunners and cast. I’ll keep writing about it, well, as long as I’m allowed to, so stick with TechRadar for all your Middle-earth needs.

Only Murders in the Building, Season 4 (Hulu/Disney Plus)
Watch on
Only murders in the building is back and seemingly bigger than ever, with the latest episode of the hit Hulu show (it’s also available internationally on Disney Plus) already garnering an impressive 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
This time, the unlikely and popular trio of Mabel (Selena Gomez), Charles (Steve Martin), and Oliver (Martin Short) are back to find out who killed their beloved friend and Charles’ longtime stunt double Sazz. So the story of season 4 might just be their most personal case yet. They’re also flying to Los Angeles because someone wants to turn their podcast into a movie, which means we’ll be seeing Meryl Streep’s Loretta Durkin again, too. Hooray! So be sure to tune back in to see one of the best Hulu shows and best Disney Plus shows, especially if you’re a true crime connoisseur.

Terminator Zero (Netflix)
Watch on
Judgement Day is finally here, which means you can now stream Terminator Zero on Netflix. If you’re a fan of James Cameron’s cyborg assassin sci-fi saga – and let’s be honest, why wouldn’t you be – then you’re in for a treat, as the new show goes back to the horror roots of the original film. In fact, its creator Matt Tomlin reveals that it’s a “faithful adaptation” of the sci-fi franchise after delving into the original source material.
In fact, you won’t see any Arnold Schwarzenegger-esque characters with leather jackets and Harley Davidsons in this adaptation, and Sarah Connor won’t be back either. Instead, in this R-rated animated series, when Skynet goes rogue and unleashes Armageddon, humanity relies on a lone freedom fighter named Eiko to save scientist Malcolm Lee. Instead of LA, there’s Tokyo, Terminator Zero has the potential to become not only one of the best Netflix animes, but also one of the best Netflix shows.

Kindness (Disney Plus / Hulu)
Watch on
Yorgos Lanthimos is one of the greatest directors flying the flag of the Greek Weird Wave – a cinematic movement that Collider describes as an examination of authoritarian power structures in weird and wonderful ways. And after his recent collaboration with Emma Stone in The poor, that was a colorful, stormy odyssey, I am very excited to see what they have in store next. The pair had also worked together on The favorite, which also happens to be coming out on Hulu in September, so you can stream two more great movies after the film. Types of kindness.
Speaking of Lanthimos’ latest project, it wouldn’t make our list of the best Hulu movies and best Disney Plus movies because it scored 72% on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning it simply doesn’t meet the inclusion criteria. That won’t stop me from streaming it this weekend, though. I’m a fan of anthologies as a storytelling device because of their ability to weave together a complex theme or sparse narrative, and the triptych fable about a man without a choice, a woman’s search for an amazing spiritual guide, and a cop’s missing wife at the center Types of kindness sounds perfect for that.

Chaos (Netflix)
Watch on
Chaos is a black comedy series that reinterprets Greek mythology in a contemporary way. In it, three people discover their connections to each other and to an ancient prophecy while wrestling with corrupt Greek gods.
The ever so charming Jeff Goldblum plays the emotionally unstable Zeus, the Greek god of thunder? I’m in! Although I don’t know much about Greek mythology, this sounds like a fun twist on the subject. Who knows, maybe I’ll learn something new and it will become one of the best Netflix series.

The Guardians (Max)
Watch on
The Guardiansa new supernatural horror film, is ready to stream on Max, so fans of the genre can get their fill this weekend. It’s the directorial debut of Ishana Night Shyamalan, who follows in her father’s footsteps and delivers frights. Whether or not she inherited his love of insane twists is a mystery, and you’ll have to watch the film (no pun intended) to find out more and see if it makes our list of the best horror movies.
The film follows Mina (Dakota Fanning), a 28-year-old artist trapped in a vast, untouched forest in Ireland. There she is paired with three strangers who are stalked every night by mysterious creatures, the titular “Guardians,” from whom she must protect herself. The film is heavily inspired by folklore and is a must-see if you like horror films that are rural and menacing. Keep an eye out for it to be added to our guide to the best Max movies soon.

K-Pop Idols (Apple TV Plus)
Watch on
Apple TV Plus gives us a backstage pass into the world of K-Pop stars with the new documentary series K-pop idols. Featuring popular artists Jessi, CRAVITY and BLACKSWAN, the six-part documentary offers a close look at the intense reality of an industry that demands perfection.
Although I don’t listen to K-pop music, I am aware of the talent, skill, and determination that the artists put into their stunning performances. It’s an interesting world that I’m keen to explore, and I look forward to being mesmerized by the idols’ gift for putting on a stunning show on Apple’s streaming platform. We’ll have to wait and see if it makes our list of the best Apple TV Plus shows.
