“Industry,” Season 3 (HBO)
“Industry” is back with another cocktail of workplace pressure, fierce competition, sex, drugs and lots of money. Pierpont Bank, looking to the future and focused on ethical investing, hires Yasmin (Marisa Abela), Robert (Harry Lawtey) and Eric (Ken Leung) to oversee the IPO of a green energy company led by Sir Henry Muck (Kit Harrington, former “Game of Thrones”). Meanwhile, after leaving Pierpont, Harper (Myha’la) looks for a way to get back into finance and finds it through FutureDawn portfolio manager Petra Koenig (Sarah Goldberg, former “Barry”). In an article about Industry, I wrote, “If The Bear, Succession, and Euphoria had a threesome, Industry would be their wild child.” So buckle up, things are about to get wild.
Premieres Sunday, August 11 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and Max
“Mr. Throwback” (Peacock)
Watch on
This summer marks one of many firsts for basketball star Steph Curry: He’s competing in the Olympics for the first time and starring in a television series for the first time. Well, that’s not the biggest challenge, since he stars as a fictionalized version of himself in “Mr. Throwback.” Adam Pally plays a down-on-his-luck souvenir dealer in the mockumentary who reunites with his sixth-grade teammate, NBA star Steph. With the help of Steph and the head of his production company, Kimberly (Ego Nwodim), Danny embarks on a journey to make amends. It won’t be easy, though, even with Steph’s connections, a private jet and a bottomless bank account.

“The Instigators” (Apple TV Plus)
Watch on
Matt Damon teams up with Affleck once again, but this time it’s the other brother: Casey. They put their Boston accents to good use in this gangster flick, in which Damon plays desperate father Rory and Affleck plays ex-con Cobby, who are paired up to rob a corrupt politician. Naturally, the robbery goes wrong, throwing the two men into a spiral of chaos with police, bureaucrats and crime bosses hot on their heels – take your pick. They convince Rory’s therapist (Hong Chau) to accompany them on their escape, forcing them to put aside their differences and figure out how to avoid arrest or worse.

“Inside a Dog’s Head” (Netflix)
Watch on
Following the success of 2022’s Inside the Mind of a Cat, Netflix is looking to put a smile on the dog-loving crowd with its latest documentary, Inside the Mind of a Dog, which answers all your burning questions about dogs, like how dogs evolved such a good sense of smell and why small dogs are so annoying (I say this as the owner of an elderly Chihuahua-terrier mix).
Narrated by Rob Lowe, this documentary traces the history of human-dog relationships through time and offers at-home tips for dog owners everywhere to better understand their pets and respond to their needs. And of course, there are more good guys and girls than you can shake a stick at (just throw it!!)

“Food, Inc. 2” (Hulu)
Watch on
In 2009, Food, Inc. pioneered a new genre of documentary filmmaking, examining the dark side of industrial food production. Rather than simply repeating the same ideas, Food, Inc. 2, by Robert Kenner and Melissa Robledo, examines how the food industry has changed over the past decade and a half – for better or for worse – and outlines alternatives to the food produced by large corporations.
But getting people to be more conscious of the food on their plates and where it comes from is only one piece of the puzzle. To find long-term solutions, the documentary explains, reforms must start at the forefront of the food transition.
