6 South Florida Olympians Honored with Key to Miami-Dade County – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIAMI (WSVN) – Six Olympians from Miami-Dade County were honored in Downtown Miami for their Olympic achievements in Paris and received the key to the county.

The key to the county was presented to them by Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava in recognition of their hard work and dedication.

Among those celebrated were Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo, who won gold in the U.S. men’s basketball event, and track and field star Twanisha Terry, who won gold in the women’s 4×400-meter relay.

Both told 7News that Miami should never be dismissed as an underdog.

“Today it’s a great feeling to be here, I’m honored to be given the key to the county, it’s such a surreal feeling. Wherever I go, I’m going to represent Dade County, 305. I’m going to put them on the map, whether it’s internationally or here in the state,” Terry said.

“A lot of people look at certain parts of Miami and think it’s not possible, but hard work and determination are changing a lot of those mindsets,” Adebayo said.

The athletes represented South Florida well on the world stage.
