5 things to watch for when Andy Dalton faces the Raiders

Questions about the D-line remain

The Panthers have listed nose tackle Shy Tuttle (foot) and defensive end A’Shawn Robinson (knee) as questionable. Robinson was able to practice on Thursday and Friday, albeit in a limited capacity. Tuttle did not practice all week.

This raises a lot of questions about the D-line heading to Vegas, especially with Derrick Brown (knee) out for the year, so Evero is ready to tap into a bevy of young players who may not be proven yet but show promise.

“At the end of the day, we have confidence in these guys. Nick Thurman, LaBryan Ray, (Jayden Peevy), all of those guys have played some snaps,” Evero said of his support earlier this week.

To Evero’s point, Ray, Peevy and Thurman have all played snaps on defense the first two weeks. Peevy in particular, despite only playing 39 snaps, is someone who coaches see the opportunity to step up even more in the absence of others.

“That’s what we saw from him in training camp. He has size, he has length, he’s a very good athlete. We really like him as a rusher. And so there’s a lot of work to be done on him,” Evero said of Peevy.

Canales added: “He’s learning the system. While he’s doing that, he’s huge. He’s got great length. He can play with power and we just need to make sure he puts it all together to be that consistent force where he can make an impact on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd attempt.”

We see that potential in him, but he just has to continue to learn the system and figure out where his gaps are supposed to be and all those things. So he continues to grow and help us. I’m excited to see him continue to grow.”

DeShawn Williams, who played in 16 games with 10 starts here last year, is also on the practice squad and could step in if Tuttle’s injury persists.
