The rumor mill was churning after the situation between Davante Adams and the Las Vegas Raiders reached a boiling point. This was a powder keg waiting to go off, even though things looked promising last season. It now appears as if the All-Pro wide receiver will take advantage of his opportunities elsewhere if a willing trade partner can be found.

According to uStadium, the Washington Commanders are among the teams expected to throw their hat in the ring. The New York Jets are another player that would reunite Adams with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. This development caused uproar among the fan base, who at the time were divided as to whether the move was the right decision.

General manager Adam Peters could buy at the trade deadline if the Commanders continue their sensational start to the season. By the first quarter of 2024 they are above the most expected values. It remains to be seen whether this comes with a significant disadvantage in acquiring an aging wideout.

Disrupt the momentum

The Washington Commanders are off to an unprecedented start offensively. Kliff Kingsbury’s playmaking wizardry and Jayden Daniels’ beyond-his-years attitude are on par with anything in league history in historic stats through the first four weeks. There’s also a lot to like about the team’s emerging group of wide receivers, all of whom contribute in different ways.

Acquiring Davante Adams would be an improvement over anyone other than Terry McLaurin. However, there is potential to disrupt the current trajectory of this crime. It could easily go the other way, but it’s a journey into the proverbial unknown for everyone involved, despite the elite qualities he brings to the table.

Trading Adams is a win-now move at a time when the Commanders are still perceived as a developing organization. If the people in the reception room didn’t make a difference, it would be a different story. Luckily for the franchise, that’s not the case. And guys like Noah Brown and Luke McCaffrey only get better with more familiarity.
