If you’re one of those people who watches horror movies year-round, whose goth phase never quite ended in high school (even if it still manifests itself internally today), or who happens to live on a block where neighbors try to outdo each other in decorating, then chances are you know exactly when Halloween treats go on sale.

From indoor and outdoor decor to more useful everyday items, many retailers are getting into the Halloween spirit—and not just the ones that shout “boo!” However, not all bargains are created equal during this spooky season, and even people who have a favorite store like Walmart may want to head elsewhere, like Dollar Tree, for a change.

In fact, when GOBankingRates did a price comparison of Walmart and Dollar Tree, we found that the latter store had more trick-or-treating on Halloween items.

Skeleton Decor

Is it really Halloween without skeletons hanging from doorknobs or sticking out of azalea bushes? Any haunted house just isn’t complete without the bones of a dead person. However, you’ll likely find cheaper options at Dollar Tree, like the 23.5-foot-long hanging plastic skeleton for just $1.50.

While the Walmart skeletons on sale are nothing to sneeze at (unless you remove some of their vertebrae, of course), they are more expensive overall. The 5-foot-tall, posable skeleton isn’t a bad deal at just $29.97, and it’s definitely bigger than its Dollar Tree counterpart, but it’s significantly more expensive.

Drinkware

The only thing better than a Halloween party is a Halloween party with spooky-looking drinkware. Both Walmart and Dollar Tree offer unique drinkware that guests will want to take home. However, the Halloween drink bottles with straws at Dollar Tree are only $1.50 each, while a four-pack of glass pumpkin cups at Walmart costs $12.56.

Serving trays

Whether you’re laying out candy for the neighborhood kids or the adults at your Halloween party, you need a serving tray that will put everyone in the spooky-good spirit. Walmart offers a stoneware serving tray with a beautifully designed Halloween scene for $12.36, or you can find a cheaper option at Dollar Tree: the purple or black plastic serving tray is available for the spooky-good price of $1.50.

Inflatable items for outdoor use

When it comes to outdoor Halloween decorations, inflatable outdoor decorations are your best bet. Walmart certainly offers you a ton of amazing options in terms of creativity and price, from hitchhiking ghosts for $132.99 to the lively scene of a cartoon ghost transporting his candy loot in a pumpkin bucket for just $26.

However, if you’re looking for an affordable Halloween classic like spooky eyes or pumpkins, why not head to Dollar Tree and pick up something 4-foot tall inflatable for just $5?

There’s no trick-or-treating without candy, and if you want to be the coolest guy on the block, you’re going to want to get some good candy. The candy that will hopefully protect you from the trick-or-treating part of the equation can be found at both Walmart and Dollar Tree.

While Walmart offers candy in bulk, standard sizes like the Reese’s Pieces still cost $3.96 per bag. Similar options are available at Dollar Tree for just $1.50. Even though it’s not a name brand, it’s more than enough to keep candy collectors of all ages happy.
