The time for talking is almost over.
After one of the most eventful offseasons in franchise history, the Washington Commanders now have the chance to showcase their progress in the regular season. The anticipation is growing exponentially. But after so many major changes in the organization, this remains a journey into the unknown for everyone involved.
The Commanders are almost unrecognizable from top to bottom. New general manager Adam Peters has thinned the roster with ruthless efficiency. Head coach Dan Quinn and his staff have motivated their players and instilled in them an energy and purpose that Ron Rivera seemingly couldn’t muster. It would be wise to temper expectations at first, but fans are hoping that in some ways improvements will emerge.
Washington’s status remains precarious for the time being. Many expect them to make big strides in year one and possibly make the playoffs. Others expect the changes to be gradual, which isn’t a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination.
Another exciting season is upon us, with some dark clouds gathering over the organization. With that in mind, here are five bold Commanders predictions for the 2024 season.
Commander’s RB tandem scores 2,000 rushing yards
The Washington Commanders have a potentially successful running back duo to start the season. Brian Robinson Jr. appears to be a breakout candidate after catching the eye in 2023. He is joined by veteran free agent Austin Ekeler, who already has plenty of experience but should thrive in a more specialized role.
Ekeler wanted to move to a team with an already established young running back to extend his NFL career. Robinson is just that, so there’s a strong case for this tandem to pair with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels – another with proven ability to gain a lot of yards on the ground.
If the backfield duo of Robinson and Ekeler can get close to 2,000 rushing yards in Kliff Kingsbury’s offensive system in 2024, that’s an immensely positive foundation to build on. That’s a high bar, but don’t be surprised if they end up accomplishing that feat.
