4-year-old drowns in pond near his Monroe home: prosecutor

MONROE, NJ — A 4-year-old boy drowned in a pond near his family’s home in Monroe on Tuesday, said Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Police Chief Griffin M. Banos of the Monroe Township Police Department.

On Tuesday at around 6:48 p.m., Monroe Police received a 911 call reporting a child missing.

When authorities arrived on scene, they began searching for the 4-year-old. The child was found in a pond 50 yards from the back patio of the family’s home and was not breathing, Ciccone said.

Authorities performed CPR on the child and took him to Princeton Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

“Our hearts are heavy with sadness as we mourn this tragic loss. We extend our deepest condolences to the family during this incredibly difficult time,” Ciccone and Banos said in a statement.
