4 statistics show how badly Deshaun Watson of the Cleveland Browns played

Deshaun Watson and the Cleveland Browns lost another disappointing game in Week 3. Despite having a huge opportunity against the struggling New York Giants, the Browns ended up losing by a final score of 21-15.

Once again, the offense had major problems. Watson didn’t play brilliantly, although the offensive line didn’t do him any favors.

Watson completed 21 of his 37 passing attempts for 196 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. It was definitely his best game of the season, but there were also plenty of concerns to take away from the game.

As Benjamin Solak from ESPNThere are four extremely worrying statistics about Watson at the start of the season.

He shared that while Watson leads the league in total dropbacks, he ranks last in the league in total QBR, yards per attempt plus yards per dropback, success rate, and explosive play rate.

Obviously, those numbers won’t be enough. Watson needs to find a way to turn his season around, and soon.

There are already calls for Cleveland to replace Watson. Some even want to bench him in the middle of the season and replace him with Jameis Winston.

That doesn’t seem like a particularly likely option at this point, but the Browns could definitely go on a quarterback shopping spree in the offseason. Depending on how the rest of the season goes, they could have good draft positions to get a quarterback.

All in all, this was a very disappointing start to the 2024 season. Cleveland was expected to be a competitive football team, and Watson had a lot of hype about a possible comeback year.

At this point, none of that is apparent and there is no reason to expect it. The team as a whole has been disappointing and there have not been many bright spots to inspire confidence.

Hopefully the team can come out strong on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 4. If not, the outside noise will get even louder and the Browns will be under even more pressure to make some changes.
