The final games of the 2024 WNBA season will take place on Thursday. While the picture for the postseason is largely set, many of the games on Thursday will be significant.

With only one game left for both teams, only the Dallas Wings and the Los Angeles Sparks are out of the play-off race.

Tuesday’s games largely set the seeding for the opening round. Jonquel Jones, Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty secured first place with an 87-71 victory over the Washington Mystics. The win ensures New York retains home-court advantage in the postseason.

The Liberty’s win also secured second place for the Minnesota Lynx. Minnesota’s 78-76 victory over the Connecticut Sun ensures that Connecticut cannot catch the Lynx on the final day of play.

Although the defending champion Las Vegas Aces cannot move into either of the top two spots, the Aces are guaranteed to host at least one series thanks to their 85-72 victory over the Seattle Storm.

During the game, Aces star A’ja Wilson set another record as part of her historic run in 2024. Wilson grabbed seven rebounds on Tuesday night, breaking Angel Reese’s record for most rebounds in a season, which she set earlier this year with 451 rebounds.

Wilson had already set a new points record in a single season.

Las Vegas is currently ranked No. 4, but Tuesday’s Connecticut loss means the Aces can still secure the No. 3 spot. They need a win and a Sun loss on Thursday, but that could happen.

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever have secured the 6th seed, so if Las Vegas advances, it could be a thrilling first-round matchup. If the Aces stay in 4th, they will face the Storm again.

Perhaps the most exciting event on Thursday, however, will be the race between Chicago Sky, Washington Mystics and Atlanta Dream.

1. New York Liberty: 32-7 (achieved, tie)

2. Minnesota Lynx: 30-9 (achieved, tie)

3. Connecticut Sun: 27-12 (won)

4. Las Vegas Aces: 26-13 (won)

5. Seattle Storm: 24-15 (achieved, tie)

6. Indiana Fever: 20-19 (achieved, tie)

7. Phoenix Mercury: 19-20 (achieved, tie)

9. Washington Mystics: 13-26

11. Dallas Wings: 9-30 (eliminated)

12. Los Angeles Sparks: 7-32 (eliminated)

With one game to go, Atlanta has the best chance of securing the eighth and final spot. With a one-game lead over the Mystics and the Sky, the Dream are in for a win. Atlanta will face New York in the final, but with nothing left to play for, the Liberty could give their stars a rest.

The Dream will also enter the race with losses from the Sky and Mystics due to tiebreakers. Head-to-head comparisons will serve as the first tiebreaker, while conference winning percentage will be considered next.

The Sky, who lost Reese to a season-ending wrist injury, have perhaps the toughest road to the postseason. Washington won its regular season series against Chicago 3-1, so a Mystics win and a Dream loss will secure them the 8th seed.

The Sky need a win and losses from Washington and Atlanta to secure the final spot. That seems unlikely, especially given the team’s health. Reese is out and both Chennedy Carter and Kamilla Cardoso missed Tuesday’s 86-70 loss to Atlanta.

“Everyone’s availability will be crucial (on Thursday),” Atlanta coach Teresa Weatherspoon said of the upcoming final, according to Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times“A large part of our team is sitting on the sidelines.”

Chicago will finish its season against the Sun, while the Mystics will finish their schedule against the Fever. The reward for winning the final playoff spot will be a best-of-three series against the Liberty.

The schedule for Thursday is as follows:

Dream at Liberty, 7 p.m. ET

Fever at Mystics, 7pm ET

Sparks at Lynx, 8 p.m. ET

Storm on Mercury, 10 p.m. ET

Wings at Aces, 10 p.m. ET
