2024 Emmy Awards winners list: Jeremy Allen White wins Best Actor in a Comedy Series for “The Bear” | Web series
The Emmy Awards kicked off Sunday in Los Angeles, where the historical epic Shogun – a story of warring dynasties in feudal Japan – is set to break all records at the television equivalent of the Oscars. “We haven’t even given out a single award tonight, and yet Shogun has already made Emmy history,” noted Daniel Levy, who co-hosts with his father Eugene, in their opening segment. Shogun dominates the nominations
Shogun is already the most awarded single season of any series in Emmy history, with 14 awards given out in supporting categories at a separate gala last weekend. With 14 awards in supporting categories, Shogun has already surpassed the previous record for the number of Emmys for a drama in a single season, set by Game of Thrones with 12. Its biggest rival this year is previous drama winner The Crown.
This is the second Emmy gala this year, after last year’s ceremony was postponed to January due to a double blow in Hollywood.
The show began with the hosts, a father and son, poking fun at the ongoing problems of U.S. television and calling the Emmys “television’s biggest night honoring movie stars on streaming services.”
Eugene Levy mocked criticism of whether The Bear was really a comedy, stressing: “In the true spirit of The Bear, we will not make jokes.”
The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards will be streamed in India on Lionsgate Play.
