A fire at a Vallejo home in the early hours of Monday morning killed two people and their two dogs, authorities said.

The fire was reported around 2:40 a.m. in the 100 block of De Paul Drive in North Vallejo. The Vallejo Fire Department said when crews arrived, they found a one-story, single-family home engulfed in flames.

Two women were found in the house, firefighters said. One woman was rescued from the burning building and taken to a hospital in critical condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The second woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two dead dogs were also found in the house, the department said.

No firefighters were injured and the cause of the fire was still under investigation Monday afternoon. The American Canyon Fire Protection District provided mutual aid during the firefight, the department said.

No neighboring houses were damaged.

The identities of the two victims were not immediately released.
