LANSING – Two people were shot in the city’s Westside neighborhood late Tuesday afternoon.

Lansing police responded to a reported shooting at the corner of Riddle and West Allegan streets in the city after 3 p.m. and found two men with gunshot wounds, said Jordan Gulkis, Lansing police public information director. Both were taken to an area hospital by the Lansing Fire Department, she added.

The crime scene is located directly east of Riddle Elementary School.

The men’s condition is unknown, Gulkis said, and no one has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.

Numerous police officers were on site and a section of Riddle Street between Chelsea Avenue and West Allegan was cordoned off shortly before 4 p.m.

Inside the police cordon, personal items were apparently lying on the street.

Lansing Police Chief Rob Backus was on site.

The district said in a letter to parents that restricted access was imposed for Riddle on Tuesday afternoon so families could pick up their children.
