2 Improvements the Buffalo Bills Need to Make for Week 3

While Week 2 is upon us for 30 NFL teams, it’s already over for the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins. On Thursday Night Football, the Bills marched into Miami and took control from start to finish. Aside from the 7-7 tie in the first quarter, this game was never close. Buffalo blew the crowd out of the game, embarrassed Tua Tagovailoa by intercepting him three times (including once when he scored a touchdown), and James Cook was the star of the show for the Bills.

Buffalo took the division win 31-10 and now has just over a week until their Monday Night Football Week 3 home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Bills enter Week 3 2-0 and will look to keep their momentum going, but they have struggled against the Jaguars recently.

The Bills have proven themselves to be a resilient team this year with their 14-point comeback against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1. Now they’ve shown they can dominate an opponent just as well as they did in Week 2. In Week 3, when the Jaguars come to town, it’s time to put it all together.

While it seemed like the Bills could do no wrong against Miami if they tried, there are still two improvements for Buffalo heading into Week 3.

In the first two weeks of the season, the Bills’ run defense has allowed 4.5 yards per carry. Last week, they couldn’t stop James Conner and Kyler Murray even managed a couple of runs. Then it was Miami’s De’Von Achane who rushed for 96 yards alone against the Bills.

To keep Josh Allen and the offense from having to play catch-up, the run defense needs to stop the run and force the opposing offense to throw the ball. Buffalo has had a solid pass defense the first two weeks and they will need Trevor Lawrence to carry the Jaguars on his shoulders instead of allowing Jacksonville to control the game on the ground.

All offseason, Dalton Kincaid was expected to play a big role for the Bills. However, that hasn’t been the case over the last two games. He has just five catches for 44 yards. I understand it’s only been two games and Allen had a hand injury against the Dolphins, but Kincaid has been quiet so far.

That should change as the season progresses, but Kincaid is too talented not to be included in Joe Brady’s game plan. While Brady’s philosophy is that everyone eats, Kincaid’s talent is too great to ignore.
