16-year-old arrested after shooting near McLane High School, officials say

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A 16-year-old student has been booked into a juvenile detention center on a felony charge following a shooting near McLane High School.

The search continues for another teenager who may also have been armed at the time of the incident.

Classes resumed on Thursday with additional police officers on campus following a temporary lockdown on Wednesday.

Fresno County officials said a group of students were standing outside the AutoZone on the corner of Cedar and Clinton before school let out.

At some point a fight broke out in which a 16-year-old student pulled out a gun.

Several shots were fired, causing the students to run away.

No one was injured, but a building and a truck were hit.

Officers rushed to the scene and helicopters circled overhead as they searched for the fleeing gunman.

He was found hiding in a backyard less than half a mile away.

Officers arrested the 16-year-old accused of firing the shots.

They are still looking for the second armed teenager.

Deputies are working with McLane’s School Resource Officer to try to identify anyone involved.

They say the shooting appears to be related to gang violence.

Fresno Police are also investigating social media posts that appear to contain threats against Mclane High School.
