15 people injured, 14 buildings damaged, city declares a state of emergency

According to Nash County Emergency Management, 15 people were injured after a confirmed tornado Friday afternoon in Rocky Mount.

Slade said he saw the tornado pick up a car, spin it around and throw it into a restaurant. He added that his car was near the two who were struck by the tornado.

“It was a fear,” he said.

According to Nash County Emergency Management, 14 structures were damaged by the tornado.

“We’re actually doing a damage assessment and making sure all the power is shut off, the utilities are shut off (and) the gas is shut off.”
