It is also the start of an expanded ACC conference, which now includes 17 full-time teams with the new additions of Stanford, Cal and SMU.

After being eliminated from the College Football Playoff last season (13-1), the reigning ACC champions, the Seminoles, are back to avenge their ugly 63-3 loss to Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

With 13 players eligible for the NFL Draft, a new season begins in a unique setting when head coach Mike Norvell’s squad descends on Dublin for the season opener. Standing in their way is a Yellow Jackets program trying to get back on its feet after reaching its first bowl game since 2018.

Last season’s outstanding performances by Heisman finalist Jordan Travis are now just memories. Florida State hands the ball over to DJ Uiagalelei, who set career highs in yards per game (219.8) and yards per attempt (8.37) in a single year at Oregon State. His offensive line is experienced and has proven its mettle in big games.

Lawrance Toafili, the MVP of last year’s ACC Championship Game, has a strong running game that also includes All-American transfer Jaylin Lucas and transfer Roydell Williams.

The Seminoles’ offense will be without offensive coordinator Alex Atkins, who is currently serving a three-game suspension.

On defense, the pass-rushing duo of Pat Payton and Georgia native Marvin Jones Jr. look to terrorize the Yellow Jackets’ backfield. The Seminoles are dangerous across the board, leading the nation in several defensive categories, including opponent pass completion rate (48.3) and pass breakups (80).

Florida State has won 12 consecutive conference games. This will be the Seminoles’ first international game in program history.

The Yellow Jackets’ hopes of impressing Ireland and sending shockwaves to the United States will depend on their defense, but the offense is well underway.

After an average 7-6 season, they led the ACC in the running game and ranked third in total offense with 424.6 yards per game. It will be the Haynes show again with starting quarterback Haynes King and rush option Jamal Haynes. King threw for 2,842 yards and 27 touchdowns while also running for 737 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

Head coach Brent Key and Georgia Tech welcome back four of their five starters on the offensive line and three of their four top receivers.

The defense finished last in the conference in total defense. The task won’t be easy, but new defensive coordinator Tyler Santucci is up to the task after putting in a strong performance in the same role at Duke.

This is Georgia Tech’s second appearance at Aviva Stadium. In 2016, they defeated Boston College 17-14.

Florida State leads the all-time series at 15-11-1, the Seminoles have a 13-4 record against Georgia Tech in regular season games and have two wins in both games played on neutral ground (ACC Championship).
