10 Coffee Drinks We Love for National Coffee Day

There’s a reason home goods store aisles are filled with items that pay homage to the power of coffee. Coffee is life. Or at least it’s worth getting up in the morning. And it’s definitely a drink worth celebrating.

The coffee plant, first discovered in Ethiopia, was brought to Yemen in the 15th century, where it gave rise to the coffee we know and drink today. The drink and its place in our culture have continued to evolve over the centuries. Now, the third-wave coffee culture that emphasizes quality and the coffee experience is fully established in the Twin Cities, and beverages made from carefully selected beans abound throughout the metro area.

In honor of the day that celebrates all that is wonderful about bean juice—National Coffee Day is September 29th and International Coffee Day is October 1st—we’re sharing our favorite coffee drinks specific to these businesses what makes this brew and our place so special? This is the Yemeni chain’s first outpost in the metro area, but locations in Blaine and Burnsville are in the pipeline. The proprietary bean blend is blended with cardamom and cinnamon, resulting in an almost peppery-floral coffee flavor that fades into a splash of cream. The mixture is also available as a latte, hot or iced.

It’s a little sip of childhood nostalgia with crushed Mexican candy in a strong latte macchiato. Mazapan has a peanut butter vanilla flavor and the result is an aromatic and slightly savory coffee. Suffice it to say, this house specialty in a coffee cup totally counts as breakfast.

With Churchill Street’s high roofline and soft light, it feels like a gentler way to start the day in the morning. There’s the beautifully curated goods, the impressive menu and the coffee drinks. Even if you’re just passing through, it’s worth stopping off, taking a deep breath and enjoying a little Nordland sophistication in a cup. The Cardimiel combines rich local honey with some green cardamom spice and dried orange peel to create a Nordic dessert-like drinking pleasure.
