1 dead in shooting near Davenport Skybridge, grandmother confirms identity

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – Davenport Police confirmed one person was killed in a shooting near the Skybridge early Saturday morning. The victim’s grandmother contacted TV 6 and confirmed her grandson’s name is Mason Payne and he is 23 years old.

At around 12:30 a.m., police received a report of shots fired and found Payne suffering from apparent gunshot wounds in the parking lot next to the Skybridge.

When TV6 crews arrived at the scene, patrol cars were parked in the parking lot next to Davenport’s Skybridge. The parking lot was cordoned off with crime scene tape as officers and crime scene teams prepared for the investigation.

While police investigated the shooting, they closed River Drive between Harrison Street and Brady Street.

At one point, an officer across the street from the main crime scene used a flashlight to search for evidence in the basement of the Figge Art Museum.

Payne’s grandmother also confirmed on Saturday that police are currently searching for at least one suspect.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Davenport Police Department at 563-326-6125 or submit an anonymous tip to QC Crime Stoppers by visiting www.qccrimestoppers.com or downloading the P3 Tips app.
