1 dead and 1 seriously injured after head-on collision that closes Highway 18 near McMinnville for hours

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. (KPTV) – One person died and another was seriously injured Friday on Highway 18 east of McMinnville when two pickup trucks collided, according to McMinnville police.

At around 3:30 p.m., emergency crews were called to the accident east of the intersection of Highway 18 and Norton Lane.

According to police, initial investigations indicate that the accident occurred when a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck traveling from the east crossed the center lane and collided head-on with an oncoming GMC Sierra pickup truck pulling a flatbed trailer.

According to police, the two trucks collided in an offset manner, with the passenger side of one truck colliding with the passenger side of the other truck.

The passenger of the Chevrolet died at the scene of the accident, the driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The GMC driver did not appear to be seriously injured but was taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. He was the only person in the GMC.

Highway 18 was closed for about three and a half hours and reopened around 7 p.m.
