🔴 LIVE: Portugal, Northern Ireland, Poland lead, Serbia-Spain level

The UEFA Nations League returns tonight as the 2024/25 season begins across Europe.

Follow the biggest and best clashes here.

Portugal vs Croatia

Goalscorers: Dalot 7′, Ronaldo 34′; Dalot (OG) 41′

Portugal took the lead after just seven minutes through a connection with Manchester United.

After a nice build-up, Bruno Fernandes passed the ball into the box to Diogo Dalot, who came over from his position as right-back and finished from a tight angle with his left foot.

In the 34th minute, the home team doubled their lead and it was a special moment when Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 900th goal of his career from inside the penalty area.

Four minutes before half-time, Croatia reduced the deficit, this time with Dalot deflecting the ball into his own net after attempting to block a shot on goal.

After the break, Portugal took control of the ball and looked for an opportunity with the ball.

Serbia vs Spain

Unsurprisingly, the 2024 European champions had more possession in the early stages of the game, but Serbia had the better chances.

Luka Jović really should have put Serbia ahead at half-time, but somehow his shot went wide from less than 9 metres.

The hosts remained dangerous after the break, but Ivan Ilić’s dangerous run towards goal was only stopped by a foul by Aymeric Laporte. The Torino midfielder’s resulting free kick hit the left of David Raya’s post.

Spain’s best moves came from Lamine Yamal on the right, but whenever they had the goal in sight they lacked the finishing touch.

Scotland vs Poland

Goalscorers: Gilmour 46′; Szymański 11′, Lewandowski 43′

After an even start, Poland took the lead out of the blue. Sebastian Szymański was not challenged, but few would have expected him to score from just 32 metres.

Scotland thought they had equalised in the 22nd minute when Scott McTominay appeared at the back post and slotted home an Andy Robertson cross.

However, the current Napoli midfielder was accused of handball before the ball hit the net.

Poland increased their lead to 2-0 from a penalty just before half-time. Tony Ralston brought down Nicola Zalewski and Robert Lewandowski scored his 84th international goal.

Scotland pulled one back just after the break, through Napoli’s other new midfielder, Billy Gilmour. Lyndon Dykes brought the ball into the box and Gilmour slotted home to delight Hampden Park.

It was only the second goal of the former Brighton and Chelsea star’s career, both of which he scored for his country.

With another cracker, Szymanski almost restored his team’s two-goal lead, but his shot went just wide.

Northern Ireland vs Luxembourg

Goalscorers: McNair 10′

Northern Ireland started stronger and Dion Charles almost scored the first goal after ten minutes when a free kick from George Saville fell unhindered at his feet.

Michael O’Neill’s team scored the deserved goals a short time later: Paddy McNair fired the ball into the goal after it had been played to him in the penalty area.

Just six minutes later it was 2-0, and again it was a set piece. Saville passed the ball to Dan Ballard, who cleverly finished at the near post.

Despite having the ball in superior numbers, Luxembourg hardly managed to create any chances before and after the break as the hosts continued to apply pressure.
