🔴 LIVE: Liverpool catch up at San Siro, Bayern flies

It’s a big night of European action ahead as the Champions League returns for the first time in a brand new format.

Follow it live with us.

Milan vs Liverpool

Goalscorers: Pulisic 3′; Konate 23′ Van Dijk 41′

Liverpool had little time to settle in before Christian Pulisic put Milan ahead at the San Siro, firing past Alisson at the near post.

After Arne Slot’s team had time to calm down, Ibrahima Konaté headed a set piece into the goal to equalise.

After Mo Salah hit the crossbar, Liverpool took the lead from another set piece with a powerful header from Virgil Van Dijk.

Real Madrid vs Stuttgart

On his debut for Real Madrid in the Champions League, Kylian Mbappé had two early chances to score before Stuttgart themselves were unlucky and failed to score when his shot hit the crossbar.

Bayern vs Dynamo Zagreb

Goalscorers: Kane 16′, Guerreiro 33′, Olise 38′

Bayern thought they had taken the lead when Jamal Musiala played a beautiful pass to Serge Gnabry in the penalty area, but the German international’s shot was disallowed for offside and the referee instead awarded a penalty after a foul on Aleksandar Pavlović.

Harry Kane converted this penalty and gave the home team the lead.

A brilliant chest clearance from Musiala in the penalty area allowed Raphaël Guerreiro to fire a fantastic volley into the net. The goal was checked by the video referee for possible offside, but was allowed.

No sooner had this goal been scored than Bayern scored another, this time through former Crystal Palace player Michael Olise, who scored his first Champions League goal with a header.

Sporting vs Lille

Goalscorers: Gyökeres 38′

The home team took the lead thanks to an excellent turnaround and a finish in the penalty area by the in-form Viktor Gyökeres.

Things got even worse for Lille when Angel Gomes was sent off with a second yellow card after a foul on goalscorer Gyökeres.

Thiago Motta wins in his first Champions League appearance as coach

Goalscorers: Yildiz 21′, McKennie 27′, González 52′; Saibari 90+3

Juventus newcomer Nico González scored a goal and provided an assist as the Bianconeri beat PSV 3-0 at home.

Thiago Motta’s team got off to a brilliant start when new player Kenan Yildiz, wearing the number ten, marched towards the penalty area and put Juve in the lead with a spectacular solo effort.

Juventus doubled their lead when stunning work from González down the right gave Weston McKennie the chance to head the ball home from a central position.

Shortly after the break, González transformed from playmaker to goalscorer when he was free in the penalty area after a clever pass from Dušan Vlahović and shot the ball high into the net.

In injury time, PSV managed to score a consolation goal, but it hardly spoiled Juve’s clean sheet.

Aston Villa ends 41-year wait for UCL football with big win

Goalscorers: Tielemans 27′, Ramsay 38′, Onana 86′

Aston Villa celebrated their first return to the Champions League since 1983 with a 3-0 win against Young Boys.

The travelling fans soon had reason to celebrate after Youri Tielemans finished off a beautiful set piece from just inside the 16-metre area.

Then, a serious error in the Young Boys defence allowed Villa to score another goal before half-time: Ollie Watkins hesitated and appeared to commit a foul near the goal line, and Jacob Ramsay reacted quickly, stole the ball and slammed it into the net.

Villa were in goal-scoring form and Watkins fired a rocket-like shot straight into the top corner, but the goal was disallowed due to a handball beforehand.

Following his stunning goal in the Premier League at the weekend, substitute Jhon Durán produced another wonderful finish, but his shot was also disallowed for a handball that had led to the goal, and this time it was even more blatant.

A perfect evening for the Villains was rounded off when Amadou Onana smashed a low shot from distance into the bottom corner.

The Champions League continues on Wednesday: Man City will face Inter – a repeat of the 2023 final – and PSG will play against Girona, who are themselves part of the City Football Group.
